American Farmstand day

American Farmstand Day is a national celebration dedicated to the farms, farmstands, makers, bakers, and families who keep local traditions alive and strengthen communities across America.

Observed each year on the last Sunday in August, American Farmstand Day encourages people to slow down, take the scenic route, and discover the roadside farmstands that make every community unique. Whether it's picking up just-picked produce, homemade bread, local honey, fresh flowers, handcrafted goods, or simply stopping to visit with a neighbor, every farmstand tells a story worth celebrating.

Founded by the American Farmstand Association, American Farmstand Day was created to shine a spotlight on the small farms and local businesses that often serve as the heartbeat of their communities. These places preserve agricultural traditions, support local economies, create memorable family experiences, and remind us that some of life's best moments happen along a country road.

The celebration is about more than shopping local. It's about connecting with the people who grow our food, make our products by hand, and welcome visitors with genuine hospitality. It is an opportunity to explore rural communities, support local tourism, and discover the hidden gems that make America special.

On American Farmstand Day, we invite everyone to:

  • Visit a farmstand.
  • Discover somewhere new.
  • Support local makers, bakers, and farmers.
  • Share your favorite farmstand with family and friends.
  • Celebrate the traditions that bring communities together.

The last Sunday of August was chosen for American Farmstand Day to recognize the seasonal transition from summer harvest to fall harvest, a time when farmstands across the country showcase  some of their greatest abundance and agricultural traditions.

From fresh-picked produce to homemade pies, handcrafted soaps to locally raised beef, every purchase helps preserve small farms, encourages entrepreneurship, and strengthens rural communities for generations to come.

Together, we're celebrating the places where community grows, traditions thrive, and local truly matters.

 Keep it simple.

Open your stand if you're able, welcome visitors, and share what makes your farmstand unique.

Many farmstands choose to offer samples, feature seasonal products, host demonstrations, partner with neighboring farms, or simply invite customers to stop by and say hello.

The goal isn't to create extra work. It's to celebrate the community you've already built.
